Skinny Jean Challenge MonaVie March - Week 2

After two weeks on the Skinny Jean Challenge (using MonaVie) I have noticed a few changes.  Taking the MonaVie twice daily has made me more “regular” (meaning I poo 2-3 times daily).  I’ve been exercising twice a week for an hour which, I know isn’t enough but I’m limited to when I have childcare.  I’ve lost 3 pounds and my pants feel slightly looser.  My energy level is about the same but I’m still getting up twice a night with the baby and there is no replacement for a good nights sleep.
I like the routine of taking 2 ounces of juice first thing in the morning and 2 ounces at 3pm.  I usually don’t get to eat until after I get all three kids up,  fed and ready for the day which means it can be as late as 11am before I get to eat anything. Such is the life of a mom.  I know it sounds weird but that 2 ounces of juice actually gives me the energy to get what I need done in the morning with out being completely ravished.  I take another 2 ounce shot of juice at 3pm which is when I start to hit the wall.  That little shot is a great pick me up for me to complete the rest of the day.
My thoughts on MonaVie thus far:  I do think its a great product and I have felt a slight improvement but I think you could see the same improvements just by eating nutritious food that are full of antioxidants like blueberries, broccoli, tomatoes, red grapes, garlic, tea, spinach, soy, and whole grains.  If you lead a busy life and don’t, won’t, or can’t eat healthy I think taking MonaVie twice a day is a delicious, easy way to improve your nutritional intake, health, and energy.

What am I doing for the Skinny Jean Challenge?

1. Exercise - I’ve been hiking the local trails twice a week.  It takes about an hour to get up and down the hill.  This is great cardio and strength training on butt, legs and stomach.  I take the kids on a walk when the weather is nice and if the weather isn’t we’ve been having dance parties inside.

2. Food - I’ve been eating 2 servings of fruit and 3 servings of veggies a day.  Also trying to increase protein intake by having hard boiled eggs available as a quick snack.

3. MonaVie - 2 ounces twice a day.

I’m not depriving myself of any types of food.  Also, I’m not limiting calorie intake since I’m still breastfeeding.  I’m just trying to eat more consciously and exercise when I can.

Your Brain Is Making a Fool Out of You

In your brain you probably think you can do pretty much everything you used to do.  You know that old saying “its like riding a bike” well I’m here to tell you your brain is fooling you.  Yes, you may be able to get on that bike, peddle and it may look something similar to bike riding but I can guarantee you won’t be popping wheelies or riding down the street “no hands”.  The mind is able but the body has forgotten.  Don’t believe me?  Well, I’ve done the work for you and let my humiliation be your warning.
In the afternoon if the weather is nice I take the kids to the backyard to play.  My 4 year old daughter was practicing rolling when she asked if I could help her do a cartwheel.  Naturally I thought the best way to teach her was do demonstrate a proper cartwheel.  Back in the day I had some worthy cartwheel skills so in my mind I could easily impress my 4 year old.  I took a run at it so I could get enough momentum to do a complete 360.  My hands went down to catch the ground, my arms buckled, grass went flying and I landed flat on my back.  My daughter’s mouth gaped open in awe, and I, in pain was laughing hysterically.  My mind had tricked me!
Now that I’ve started the Skinny Jean Challenge I have started trying to take advantage of any opportunity to exercise. I’ve been hiking the local trails on Saturday and Sunday when my husband can watch the kids.  Actually, its more like shimming up the hills since I’ve been jamming out to Run DMC, Shakira, Justin Timberlake, and the Killers.  Every time I make the effort to go out and exercise I remind myself that my brain will try to convince my body that it can do something it shouldn’t.  Doesn’t mean I don’t try it any way but at least I know the outcome could be painful and hilarious for those onlookers.  So for those of you that have joined me in the Skinny Jean Challenge know that getting started on the path to skinny jean-ville your brain may tell you “yes”, your body may tell you “no” but I say, what doesn’t kill you may make you sore the next day.

Skinny Jean Challenge with MonaVie March

Objects may apear exactly the size as they apear.Every time I walk into my closet I am taunted.  Taunted by all the clothes I used to wear.  All the clothes that used to fit pre-babies.  The cruelest instigator of this taunting are my skinny jeans.  Damn them!  All folded neatly in a pile, looking down on me from their skinny jean click that I was excommunicated from.  So I gained a few 60 pounds during pregnancy and now I must wear the scarlet letter prominently shown on my butt.
I’m done with the excuses; now I’m mad!  I’m mad and I’m fat; ok, I’m actually mad that I’m fat.  I’m ready to join the ranks of non-stretch pant wearing society.  I’m ready to appreciate this body and what its done for me.  This time I will appreciate those skinny jeans when I’m able to zip and button.
Similar to a 12 step program I’ve decided to tackle this “fat thing” by admitting I have a problem. OK, its not exactly a secret since I wear my problem on my butt, belly, thighs, ect.  Never the less I am putting it out there.
For the first month of the Skinny Jean Challenge I will be taking an Acai Berry nutritional product call MonaVie .  Essentially MonaVie is juice comprised of fruits that are high in antioxidants and phytonutrients. If you check your spam in-box along with all those products that promise to grow your manhood you will also see all kinds of emails about this new “super food” called acai berry.
My friend is selling MonaVie (MonaVie is a network marketing company selling this acai berry juice) and has given me a month supply of this juice to help improve my health and perhaps make me a believer in MonaVie.  I figured this was worth a try since it was free to sign up and the juice is very yummy (Obviously I am a connoisseur of yummy things.).
In addition to drinking this (hopefully) magical juice I will also be trying to squeeze in exercise.  *I’ll blog more about my adventures in exercise.

If you are interested in joining me on the Skinny Jean Challenge please email me or just follow along with my blog.  If you’d like to see what all the MonaVie hub-bub is about you can sign up for free and get a discount.  *free enrollment for all new distributors through March 31, 2009.*
